Seasoning Your Pellet Grill

We recommend seasoning, or breaking in, your pellet gril before you cook. Seasoning your grill will remove any kind of solvents or impurities on the grill. This also helps add the “smoke” or “grilled” flavor since you are lining the inside of your grill with wood smoke (seasoning process is similar to that of a Dutch oven). To season your pellet grill:

  • Fill the pellet hopper with pellets.
  • Plug your grill into a power source.
  • Make sure the flame deflector is in place over the fire pot.
  • Flip the power switch to the ON position.
  • Use the arrows to set the temperature to 400°F and let smoke for at least 1 hour.

You can also season your grill grates by simply rubbing them with cooking oil and placing them in the grill so they can be seasoned while the inside of your grill is running.

It might take several minutes for the pellets to drop into the fire pot. Make sure the unit lights. If the unit does not light, try turning the unit off and back on to restart the ignitor.

If there is a failure with your auto ignitor, you can follow these steps to manually light your pellet grill:

  • Make sure the fire pot is empty and not burning.
  • Pour ½ cup pellets into the fire pot.
  • Squirt approximately 2 tablespoons of alcohol gel into the fire pot.
  • Carefully, light with a match.
  • Let the pellets burn for 4-5 minutes, flip the switch to ON.
  • Set the thermostat to desired temperature.

REMINDER: Only use 100% food grade pellets with your pellet grill. Using non approved hardwood barbecue pellets will void your warranty. Also, avoid getting pellets wet. Wet pellets will swell and fall apart which could clog the auger.
